Why Is There A New Tourist Tax?

In a statement, Quintana Roo Governor Carlos Joaquin González explained that the new VISITAX was enacted to “work for the good of tourism in these complicated times.” The state hopes that the new fee will aid in the recovery of travel and tourism and also support the region in overcoming the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the new fee will create additional jobs and fund new tourist attractions in the long run.

The government of Quintana Roo has designated an official platform for the collection of the VISITAX.
